bento #5: discounted sushi & nando's leftover

was at isetan, klcc yesterday and like i've mentioned before, i can never resist discounted food offered by supermarkets at closing time. hehe...

sushi for breakfast? yeah, i know! but heck cares... yums!

had nando's for dinner with N and since i always can't finish my 1/4 chicken meals, i decided to have them pack up my side dishes (another form of portion control, no?) for a bento lunch the next day! with that in mind, my choice of side dishes were mediterranean rice and potato salad.

added on a generous dash of prawn chilli sauce, and made tamagoyaki (click link for recipe). but tamagoyaki failed miserably, coz i waited too long to fold it. the egg were already cooked, so it refused to stick when folded, hence can't achieve the 'multi-layered' effect of a tamagoyaki. but still yummy! :)

bento #4: steamboat leftover

was at N's place for makan yesterday, coz it was N's new baby niece's full-moon celebration. had steamboat and there were lots of leftovers. so N asked me to pack some home... and ta-dah! another bento for today! hehe...

used the smaller plastic container for rice, coz rice is fattening! so need to ration that! in the metal box are quail eggs, fish balls, long fish meat thingy (dunno what that's called!), cuttlefish, fu-jook wrapped fish meat, japanese to-fu, fish and sui-kao (dumpling). sprinkled some parsley and splashed on some soy sauce, and we're ready to go!

had this for dinner, coz went out for lunch with the bosses and also, went for practice straight after work tonight. i always go to practice hungry... so since today is a rainy day and the jam will probably be worse than usual, decided to eat my bento in the office and leave office later. but even tho' it's gotten cold by then (boo to the company for not providing microwave!), it's still yummy!

bento #3: warm-hearted breakfast

went to pasar malam yesterday, and bought my fav 'everytime go pasar malam must buy' kueh, the kao-chi (or chai kueh in hokkien). bought 4 for RM2, and 4 kao-chi for breakfast is too much for one person! so decided to surprise housemate M with a warm-hearted breakfast bento! hehe...

aiyo, accidentally poked one of M's kao-chi when putting it in the box!
can see the filling spilling out on the right. sorry! hehe...

cute food containers for bento!

tried out new furoshiki tying methods today. M's (red) is "yotsu musubi", a 4 tie wrap, while mine (blue) is "futatsu tsutsumi", a 2 knots carry wrap. mine looked a bit messy, coz actually i was late for work! :P

reading up on bento, i found this site on furoshiki. actually there are many ways to tie the furoshiki. all these while, i've only used the "otsukai tsutsumi", the basic carry wrap

bento #2: breakfast & lunch

my bento for today...

this is the full set of the bento box auntyjo helped me get... (minus the furoshiki, of course!)

2 tiers of boxes; a plastic box and a slightly bigger metal one, with a plastic cover thingy and an elastic band, along with an insulated bag to put everything in

6 tartlets for breakfast... yums!

store-bought fried nissin noodles with chicken fillet and mushrooms, with some prawn chilly sauce. surprisingly, the small metal box can take in quite a lot of mee!

bento #1: bento mania!

saw these in auntyjo's blog and i JUST have to to get my hands on one set! coz i oredi have a flask of the same series, so this will complete my set. but when i went to scour isetan in klcc and and jusco in cheras selatan, i couldn't find it. argh! maybe i was looking at the wrong sections? then auntyjo so graciously offered to help get me a set, as she wanted to get 2 more sets for her gurls.

so auntyjo did a drive-by at my office yesterday to pass it to me... lurv it! auntyjo also gave me a book, a hard cover of "French Women for All Seasons: A Year of Secrets, Recipes and Pleasure", from the same author of "French Women Don't Get Fat". so super nice of her! thanks heaps, auntyjo! *muaks* ok ok, i'll start reading it ASAP so that we can discuss abt it and also exchange tips! hehe...

anyway, i've no plans to start bento-ing this week, as i have a lunch appointment today and will be outstation tmr. but was shopping with N in jusco midvalley yesterday night, and i just couldn't resist their packed meals that go on discount after 8.30pm everyday... so i bought a pack of 3-piece onigiri (for only RM2 after a 40% discount!) and i just can't wait to use my new bento box! i'll let the pictures do the narrating now... sorry if the pic quality is not that good, coz i used the handphone camera. no time for proper photo. will do a proper post on my thermos set later. ok ok, the photos...

my fav way of packing my bento! cute tak? very japanese-ish, kan?
and
i love this cutlery set... coz it's a 3-in-1.
very hard to find chopsticks in a fork & spoon set!

i only use one tier of the set, the metal box. the top part (the one with the
+ signs) is just a cover sort of thing. but dunno what purpose does it serve. maybe just to make it cantik kut!

ta-dah! today's breakfast:
3 small onigiri and a slice of pickled radish. yums! :P

pure coincidence?

it's pretty scary, really... whenever i'm feeling blue or lonely or down or pensive etc, suddenly i'll get an sms from the x. basically, he leaves me alone most times. we don't keep in touch after all the storms died down. but once in a while, he'll just drop me a "how are you" msg and it's always when i'm feeling rather down in the dumps. or when i had a dream of him the previous night! scary, right?

anyway, life's been pretty mundane lately. yeah, i admit i feel pretty lonely sometimes. those deep kind of loneliness, u know? like even when u're surrounded by people, friends and families, you'll still feel lonely. very deep, right? haha...

but overall, i'm still ok lar. bz with work and stuff... so all is good!

change of url...

need to change the url, coz the x knows the old one. that was why i passworded this blog previously.

goodbye, my baby

after much deep and long deliberations, i've finally arrived to a decision... i'm giving up chewie *sob*

ever since i started working, she's been living a very pitiful life. as i'm often working late, coming home only after 8 or later, i don't really have much time for her. normally i'll just let her out long enough for me to feed her and clean her cage. only occasionally will i run her thru her tricks. and no walks AT ALL!

that's y i feel i'm being so cruel, letting her sit in the cage the whole day long. everyday when i come back from work, she'll be sitting in her cage, looking at me with her big brown kesian eyes, trying to be patient but still can't help whimpering at me, going hungry when i come home late from practice or wherever that i need to go...

and now my job requires me to be outstation frequently... nearly every week! just her boarding fees is enough to burn a hole in my pockets. and i read somewhere that actually, boarding is very stressful for pets, tho' i think chewie is getting a hang of it, coz by now she knows all the gals at the pet boarding place. and she's such a ppl-friendly doggie!

actually i've been toying with this thot for some time now... but was so reluctant to part with her! she's such a smart and easy to train dog... and so lovable too! *sob*

but i finally contacted my friend to tell him that i'm giving chewie up for adoption. he's the guy who gave me niji last time and i remembered him mentioning that if ever chewie has babies next time, he'll want one puppy. that's y i contacted him. but he din reply my sms! apa lar! so i msn his sis, and she asked me some basic questions as well as chewie's pic. then she sent out an e-mail to all her dog-lover friends and within minutes, we have an enquiry!

anyway, to cut the long story short, chewie will be staying in kepong from tonight onwards. and i heard she'll have a new doggie friend too! a schnauzer... hopefully they'll take to each other! actually, chewie is not really a doggie-friendly dog. she seems to like humans more than her fellow doggies! i dunno y... when she went to obedience school, she's had many contacts with dogs of different breeds, sizes and temperaments. and STILL, she's very hostile towards them! *sigh* just hope she'll accept her new schnauzer friend.

but most importantly, hope she'll settle in quickly to her new home and her new owners! that is what i'm most concerned about. coz according to the pet boarders, she'll have diarrhoea the first day in boarding, even tho' her appetite never failed.
and yes, i'm GIVING HER UP, not selling her. many friends, and even mom, asked y don't i sell her. but how can i? she's my baby! i'm not gonna sell my baby! i just hope for her to have a good loving home, and that she'll live a happy and healthy life. then i'm satisfied.

*sigh* sure gonna miss her! :'(

surrounded by poisons...

lately, the environment in the office is getting quite tense... although i'm not directly involved in it, but my manager is the main protagonist. and as my seating arrangement is right smack in the middle of the opposing parties, i'm literally caught in the middle of the cross fires.

actually, from a 3rd party's point of view, the matter could've been settled quite amicably. and anyway, it's all higher management's matters. shouldn't involve us small fries.

but the problem is, the assistant of the other manager is such a petty person. in secret, i nicknamed her 'mulut laser' coz everything that comes out of her mouth is like poison, spewing vulgarities and vile remarks left and right. even on good days, she'd have lots to say abt everything and everyone. she may be very nice to you in your face, but the moment you turn your back, she'd be gossiping about you. and nothing escapes her!

so since the outbreak of hostilities between my manager and her manager, her fav topic of the day is of course my manager! her mouth is yakking non-stop the whole day long. and tho' generally she leaves me alone, but she is so loudmouthed that one can't help hearing every word she says. even the designer intern under me is scared of her!

so tired of all her complains, gossips, petty squabbles, name-callings and vulgar remarks. i need earmuffs!!!
